Why Every Entrepreneur Should Read The Story Of The 3 Bricklayers

Have you heard the story of the 3 bricklayers?  📖 🧱

It’s very short and goes like this: 

A man is walking down a road and he sees 3 men working. He asks each man what he is doing.  👷🏾‍♂️👷🏽👷🏽

The first man replied, “I’m laying bricks.”  

The second replied, “I am building a wall.”  

And finally, the third man said, “I’m building a cathedral.” 🕍

So why do I think that's important?  

Because if you are an entrepreneur who wants to build a successful business, it needs to be driven by your purpose. And that purpose needs to be conveyed to your employees. 

I remember an episode in The Sopranos where Tony takes Anthony into a church and explains to him with great pride that their ancestors who immigrated there from Italy were the labourers who built that church. That’s what you want to instil in your employees. 

If you want to build a company where your employees are all motivated to work hard, provide excellent customer service and go the extra mile, they need to be aligned with your purpose. In short, they need to recognise that their work is important and take pride in ‘the cathedral’ you are all building.  

If they simply think they're ‘laying bricks’, with no sense of the bigger purpose, you have little chance of building a motivated workforce or a great company. 🥇
